Brand New Leaps for Newport College

Spring Is In The Air

September 25, 2011

Students from everywhere flood the campus.

Students from everywhere flood the campus.

This spring, the flowers aren't the only things that are blooming. Newport is experiencing a lot of "new" nowadays: new faculty members, new halls, new classes, and new social areas.

On top of that, Newport College's enrollment has been up 25% percent in the last 5 years. Students from around the world are applying, and this is driving the force to ramp up the faculty count.

"The environment here is full of an unprecedented vitality," Yoshi Asaka, new Biology Laboratory Coordinator observes. "I always loved it here,  but now I'm head over heels!"

Asaka is part of the new himself. His new role as lab coordinator has only been in place for 9 months. His great grandfather, Haru Asaka, was the great biologist responsible for the construction of Asaka Hall. And Asaka Hall is getting a new cafeteria.

"I know it sounds trite, but we really are striving to create nothing short of a utopian learning community, " Richard Williamson, president of Newport College, explains. "Our standards are high, and individuals across all demographics and geographic areas are picking up from that."

The changes in enrollment and on campus have admissions absolutely stupefied. Carol Nasser is nose-deep in orientation planning. "As a alumni of this college, I can say that this is definitely not the way it was before. Newport College has always been a great learning environment, but we're really hitting the ground running now. I never expected anything like this."

Williamson saw it coming all along. "We're not doing badly for a small college in a Podunk Northern Kentucky town. It really is springtime for us."
