AUSTINTOWN — Newport University juniors Zach Broermann and Fred Harrison have been named Honorable Mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference in voting by the league’s basketball coaches. Broermann (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) scored 11.6 points and collected three rebounds per game this season. He ranked among the OAC’s leaders in free throw shooting (86 percent) and three-point shooting (45 percent). Harrison (Cleveland/East) also scored 11.6 points per game and was one of the OAC’s leaders in steals (2 per game) and blocked shots (1 per game). “These are two young men that deserve every honor they receive,” Newport head coach Scott Reule said. “They worked hard to achieve and they helped their team achieve. They not only work hard on the floor, they work hard in the classroom. What’s even nicer is they are only juniors. There were a lot of seniors on the first and second teams. To have Zach and Fred coming back is great.” Baldwin-Wallace senior Tori Davis was named the OAC Player of the Year and Capital’s Damon Goodwin was named the conference’s Coach of the Year.
